ok my truck i think used to have power steering but the shaft that goes from the column to the gear box is too short is there a difference in that shaft from power and manual steering thanks
not sure about your gen of trucks. but the 79-83's the PS steering column is shorter. and it was on my 79 celica as well. good news is the columns are interchangeable. bad news is ya have to go back to the junkyard
If you look at were the shaft that has the rag joint flange and the shaft that comses from the fire wall, one slides into the other, there is a flat spot, look on both sides to see if the plastic sheer pin has been drilled out. if it has simply hit the rag joint flange with a hammer towards the steering box to move it closer, and if it hasn't been drilled, drill it and smack it down.
the shaft is designed to collapse in a crash take it to the junkyard and compare it to a truck thas hasnt ben hit. try askind the dealership or a bodyshop for a measurment on the shaft its standard crashdata this will let you know if the shaft is good or not
bro, u dnt need power steering, i have manual steering n when im driving its not a problem at all, even when i have to parralel park it aint that bad
yeah thanks for the idea i did that today but had a little problem with the bar rubbing the bag so i just turned the bar and it works fine except it rubs the a arm a little does yours?
do you have a steering damper on yours General or let me rephrase that how big is it cause dude mine is a pain to turn setting still or rolling at 85 it dont change but ive checked its not kinked or anything
Added power steering to the 87 4x4 I used to have and where the flange that bolts to the couple on the steering wheel side, there was an adjustment point that let me extend the shaft out enough to connect it back to the power steering gearbox. Loosened the bolt and the coupler side of the shaft is able to slide out of the thicker steering wheel shaft. Haven't really looked at my 94, but I do know the shaft is a little different as it looks to be made to compress like an accordion. Hope that helps a little.
