Ok so I have a 93 2wd std cab and i'm looking to lower it. I don't want to slam it on the ground since i'm going for more or a sport truck and I don't really like the whole slammed look. So i'm thinking a 2/3 drop or for a rake a 2/2 drop. I'm thinking about using spindles in the front and lowering leafs in the rear. So does anyone know what the best companies are, if anyone makes a 2" lowering leaf, and what the best shocks for handling and drag racing would be? Keep in mind I still want the truck to ride like stock and align to stock, also this truck will have a lot of horsepower so I need strong parts. Thanks!
spindles are a good idea, but not necessary. you could also just use lowering blocks in the rear. I'm not sure if anyone makes lowering leaves for your truck.
there are three inch lowering leafs with poly urethane bushings that I will probally get but i'm not sure. What else could I use instead of spindles?
you can just turn the torsion bars to lower it. it should be ok for only doing 2". any more than 2" you will have a stiffer ride and have more camber.
I really don't want to use the torsion bars because i'm thinking about even attempting some autocross when its done and I don't want it to ride any worse than it does now but regardless what are my other options to lower the front and benifits/downfalls to each.
Whats up Im new on here. I have lowered a bunch of yotas. The best way for 2 in is to turn torsionbars. You can actually take the torsion bars out and twist them and put them back in and it will lower the truck and keep the factory ride. Dont waste your money on rear leaf springs. They are very stiff and ride like crap. Just stick in lowering blocks. Oh yea get rid of the bumpstops. I lowered one 3in one time and left the bump stops in and it rode terible took them out and it rode good. Hope this helps some. I wouldnt waste money on spindles and lowering springs for 2in.
does the alignment stay the same if I do the torsion bar thing? Also what brand of lowering blocks is the best and which shocks would you recommend I use?
you will need an alighment just about anytime you mess with the torsions. and i would go with AIM for the blocks and use toxic shocks
2in is not going to mess with your alighment much. It will have slight negative camber not enough to notice. My truck is baged and never had a alighment. I always ran stock shocks to and they rode fine. Brand of bocks I dont think that will matter I always just run to Autozone and pick some up.
well I don't want to eat tires so getting back to factory specs for alignment is important for me if this is attainable I'll just go with torsion. How exactly is this done, I know how to do blocks but the torsion bar's are a mystery to me so if some one could do a writeup or instructions that would be extremely helpful. thanks alot!
3 inch drop blocks in the back and a few turns of the torsion bars on the front i put sum glad ware containers under the front tires and turned the bars till the tires met in the same place
When they say turning the torsion bars. You are really just turning bolts at the end of the bars. Its 2 big bolts at the end of the bars by losening the bolts you will lower it. The way i was talking about saving your ride quality is to take the bolts completly out and taking the torsion bars out completly out. The bars have splines on the end going to your lowering control arms. Twist the bars counter clock wise a little and put them back in the control arms and bolt them back up. This lowers the truck but keeps the same spring rate on the torsion bars to make it ride good. Its kinda hard to get the bars out you have to take a good pair of big vise grips on them or channel locks and hit them with a hammer. They just pull out. You have to take bump stops out or the truck will ride on them and bounce like crazy. For only doing 2" you probly would have to turn the torsion bars much. I have not done small drops like that. Anyway hope this helps.
thats probally why it rides like crap then. I'm guessing the front end or at least the lower valence is from a 4 runner.
