I recently swapped in a complete irs setup from a mklll supra (pics if interested) , I've looked everywhere for any info on coilover setups... things like spring rates/lengths n such. Looking at qa1 ds402's. Any info would be great.

    Pics would be awesome.

What info are you looking for exactly? Do you mean how spring rates would pertain to your rear axle live weight?

Is it required to change upper control arms, or can qa1's squeeze through the front stockers?Anyone run c/o's on the front of theirs and ran 300 lb springs or 350's ?

I think someone on here has done that. Can't remember who it was though. I'm sure you'd have to swap the stamped steel uppers for tubular uppers.

Dcups has QA1's all the way around on his Runner. Believe he used aftermarket uppers, but I know there are pics of the setup in his build thread 'Invasion of the bodysnatchers' I'm not sure of the rates, but Ive ridden in it and it feels like a car - in a good way!

Many guys on CustomTacos run Qa1s of the front and they all seem to use the 450-550 lb springs.

Is that IRS full width, or did you narrow it?

That's badass. I always had the same theory in my head. Fit under stock bed floor still?

No need to cut up the bed floor with the exception of a couple holes for the c/o's to poke through in the fender wells.

Thanks litneon and twin turbo for the info. Leaning towards 400lb springs up front and possibly something a lil softer in the rear. The trucks getting the 7m as well, so itll be a lil heavier also. The rearend has not been narrowed and from my measurements its just over an inch wider, so not a huge deal. If you intend on laying frame or tucking 20's, this isnt the way you wanna do it, but if handling is your goal, then by all means. I'll post more pics soon.

So got any more pics of this? I just mentioned it on another thread. Still loving the way you did things. Have any plans to upgrade the rear brakes? I've been doing some research, maybe we can compare notes.

I'll get some pics posted up soon. No plans on upgrading the rear brakes since the factory rear disc on the mkIII's are larger than the stock fronts on our trucks, I will definitely be upgrading the fronts. A member on here posted a thread on upgrading front brakes using 4wd dual piston calipers off of the trucks/4runners. It was a fairly cheap process IIRC. He also sold the mounting brackets for the calipers, I will have to find that thread and see if he still has the brackets available. I purchased qa1's us401 coilovers with 400# springs for rear and 450's up front. Since I dont have access to scales I had to make an educated guess based on my research to get close as possible on spring rates. Today I'm fabing mounts to install the coilovers so we'll see how that turns out. I'd love to see your notes and help out in anyway possible on your build. LMK

got anymore pictures of this yet?

Im really interested in how you did the mounts for the front of the IRS. Im doing the same swap in mine. Love the way you used the old frame. Im just not sure how to bolt the front up.

I like that part too. I noticed it right away. The 2 little pieces of frame rail and the stock round cross member. It keeps some of the OEM Toyota theme alive.

OP...QA1 coil overs won't fit through OEM upper control arms on 95 & earlier Toyota trucks, you'll need aftermarket UCA's. The coils are too fat.

Here is a pic of them on a 95.5-04 Taco. GS401 with 500 or 600lb coils.
