Greetings Toyota mini truckers! I've been lurking for a while and have learned some cool stuff from you fine folks. Thank you! I drive a '94 2WD. Nothing too special but at 315,000 miles, it still purrs like a champ. I just try to take care of it and would you believe it still puts 172psi on all four cylinders? Nice! I did the rear end when the pinion seal went and the oil got a little low. Did the clutch recently. And also the top end. I had the head mildly ported and an RV cam put in while I was at it. I was thinking about doing the rings but it's not using any oil and with 172psi, there doesn't seem to be a need, right? One thing that caught my eye on this board is that front brake upgrade some of you have done using the 4Runner calipers. Very nice!!!! I'm going to look into that however I'm not sure they'd fit in my 15" wheels. Anyway, nice to meet you all!! Cheers, Chip Morton
Welcome to the site, as a long timer lurker you should know pics are required with your post. Sounds like a cherry truck though.
welcome to TM. As you will notice there is a couple people on here from san diego. Got to have those pics though. So whats the plans for her now
Hahahahhahaha! You guys are funny! Yeah, I guess I've only been lurking in the tech forums and in true newbie fashion, didn't read the FAQs. Classic gearhead, no? haah OK, here's my trusted lil' greenie. As you can see, it's a pretty basic daily driver. Bilstein shocks, 15" rims, stock ride height, stock paint. The motor has a Downey intake and headers. The exhaust is 2 1/2" all the way back through the cat and Flowmaster muffler. I recently did the top end and related parts and while it was apart, had the head mildly ported and a Crower RV cam installed. I sent out for the headwork, obviously, but did the R&R myself. First time I had done a job that big. I took my time (i.e. slow) and was rewarded with zero leaks or hassles. Runs like a champ. Like I was saying, I thought rings were going to be next on my list of jobs but it's not burning oil and is at 174psi on all four cylinders. Not bad for 315,000 miles!! This was kinda cool. With a regular cab, space is tight. I wanted a little bit better sound without dropping a fortune or taking up a ton of room. I made this box that is as big as I could fit behind the seat. I started with the bottom. I put down wax paper on the carpet and surrounding area and layed down fiberglass. Then I built it up until I had a pretty thick bottom piece. Using that as a starting point, I built this little box out of MDF that has just about enough volume for an 8" sub. The box literally just sits there as it is form-fit to the floor. Doesn't move around at all. A Rockford Fosgate 551 powers that and some mids in the door. Sounds decent, all things considered! Here's another look at the bottom of the box . . . . I won't be doing much custom stuff as, like I say, it's a daily. I'll mainly be concentrating on keeping what's there solid. Plus, I'm poor. Though I do like those brakes Litneon and some others were working on! I might try a less adventurous version maintaining my stock rotors and the existing wheels.
Thanks, all. Not Old Town. I shot those just this evening over at Liberty Station, right across from Ace Hardware. And yeah, that shine is fairly recent! I had been neglecting it for too long and finally just went and got a polisher and the pads and compounds and went to town. Believe me, it took quite a few hours to rub out and bring it back to life!! It does have some cracking clear coat on the hood and roof which is why I shot it from a lower angle. hahahhahahhahahhaa!!
They were actually already on the truck when I bought it. Too bad Downey isn't around anymore. Man, they were like an institution.
