It might fit with modifications. The late 1979 had a larger grill and single headlights. Early 1979 was just a carryover of the 1978 model.
If you’re handy with a welder you can fabricate your own bumper or retrofit a later model bumper.

Check out the Jeep CJ and YJ front bumpers. They’re close to the dimensions of the 1978 Toyota.

I fabricated my own setup to allow for “flat towing”. Any shop with a pipe bender can make the same.

Thanks Fred. Wow, that looks great; simple and clean!

I had thoughts on having a local shop fab a rear tube bumper, similar to a jeep's, so I think a matching front one is in store.

What's the diameter of the tube?

2” sch 40 black pipe from HD. Plenty strong for the bumper. Tow bar is a Harbor Freight. Folds up for travel.

Getting the proper height and angle can be challenging. Too low and it hides the turn signals.

I had the factory bumper to use as a template, saved a lot of hassle.

This is what it looked like before install.

Thanks for the info Fred. Def don't want to block the headlights, the quads are amazing. I'll find a local fab shop to make front and rear tube bumpers.

Something like a step and tow bumper would be more useful on the rear. Gives you a step up towards the rear door.

Did you paint the pipe at all and put endcaps?

Touched up the welds and sprayed everything rattle can black. The end caps are chain link fence post caps. Fit the black pipe perfectly. 3C2C3BB3-43BC-4444-B2A3-F2645C613A62.jpeg
