Who's got info on fuel sending units for the 73-78 Hilux? Are there any replacements available? My truck's fuel gauge decided to stop working the other day. Assume the culprit is the fuel sending unit but haven't yet had time to look into it. I know I read some stuff about severed wires to the unit and some people reporting a fracture/separation in the "coil" that it uses to determine level. If it's the wire, I can fix that. Guessing fixing the broken coil isn't as simple as welding/brazing it together since it deals with resistance - so wondering if there are any outright replacements available? I haven't found anything yet - can one from a newer Toyota be used?
Holy cow I had no idea. Less than $30 shipped! In reading up on this problem I saw someone paid around $150 to have a company fix a stock unit, just a few years ago. Before I buy one, does anyone have experience with one of these? I assume if it's listed for our trucks it should fit and work flawlessly, but just want to make sure the Ohm range is correct and not just a "universal" part.
What's your take on this? I did read on all those eBay specials that they mention RN20 and RN25, but no RN23 mentioned. Its probably meant for an early truck with a mechanical pump. Mine looks like that, originally had a 18R. Its gotta be different on the 75+ trucks because of the electric in tank pump.
...so you think the eBay one is for a 72-74 truck, not the 75-78? I sent the seller an inquiry, hopefully they are knowledgeable.
You may have a bad ground wire at the tank. Some senders have a separate ground wire Usually when a sender goes bad you will get an inaccurate gage reading. i.e. 3/4 tank when you know its full. Or you'll suddenly see the gage dropping as your driving. Scares the s**t out of you. You think you just ruptured the tank..
