I have loved seeing Toyota crew cab dually pictures and I have wondered for years where are they built? Is it a modified truck from a factory? Does a custom shop build them overseas? I would love to have one as a daily driver. They look awesome lowered and man are they different from every other ride out there on the road. Any feedback will be much, much appreciated!

I have seen some pictures of a couple in japan. i am pretty sure they are complete custom I dont think toyota made them. I know there is a white one and a yellow one. They yellow one is Mooneyes Japan's truck. Not sure whos the white one is. Mooneyes Japan sells the dually fenders but they are expensive $1400 plus shipping. I have looked into building one but decided it was to much.

I settled on building this :D

So far as I know, the pre-Tacoma US market crew cabs were all custom built.

One name for them was 'Custom Cab'. I believe this name properly applied to custom modified trucks done by one source that contracted with Toyota. I've never been clear on the arrangement, but I recall reading somewhere that the modification (from this one source) was arranged through Toyota at point of sale.

Additional 'crew cab' Toyota pickups were custom built by aftermarket fabrication shops.

Awesome pictures and information on the infamous crew cab toyota dually. I have wondered about these trucks for years so it great to learn more about them. So you can purchase the dually fenders to match the 89-95 long bed? That is not bed I didn't even know they could be purchased I thought they may be made from scratch. On the grey dually the rear fenders look like custom made from fiberglass. Love to purchase a box truck toy and make it into a crew cab dually. Who knows after seeing that S-Runner become a crew cab I may consider the project. lobody94 you have alot of great talent taking Toyota trucks and making them so cool like that. It takes guts to cut a truck like that S-Runner up. Thanks again everybody!!!!

The 1989-97 Toyota HiLux was offered as a double cab and dually option from the factory, but not for the USA market. Double cabs were offered in 2 & 4wd, duallys were 2wd.

One of the many options that were offered everywhere else but in the USA...

They drop the tailgate and have a little crawl space cut through the bed into the cab.

Yes that is what most people use but in Japan they use the cutout.

Well yeah, they sleep in drawers too. Like on Seinfeld. They like small spaces.
Here in the states, the doors are opened with an actuator that "pulls" what would have been the handle linkage, then a spring loaded plunger pushes the door open a few inches.

Toyota has offered the Hilux as a crew cab for decades, just not in North America.
I dunno about the diesel part though, sounds like a custom job to me. I know that Toyota made a compact truck with dual rear wheels in the 80's that they fitted with campers, but Im pretty sure those were custom jobs and not something that Toyota did at the factory.
