I have a 22RE. Can I remove all that fuel injection stuff, use a 22R head and run dual 40s? Or can I run carbs on my 22RE head?
You can use the 22RE head minus all the injection stuff. All you need is the distributor from the 22R carb model and a low pressure fuel pump 2-4 psi.
im pretty much wondering why you would run a carb setup when the EFI will give you more efficiency. im not going to stop you but it can be done. carbs on your 22re head can be done...
I had a 22re 1995 and converted over to dual mikuni carbs and i get way better performance long ans short run and the response time is way better then when i had EFI. it just all depends how you setup your motor. what cam size jettings gearing.
Leave the EFI, & just build the engine! You can make the EFI very responsive, & it is way more efficient!
I assume that is vacuum air flow meter ? If so I've had no problem with mine, did the adjustments LC recommended. Response is great, power is great, mileage is good( if you stay out of the throttle)!
Vane Air Flow Meter lol the VAFM is really old tech and it uses a flapper door to take measurements, really low tech and restricts you from good tuning and stuff
Im still up in the air on what engine mods i'll be doing in the future. I just always liked dual sidedrafts. Can anyone give me more info on that VAFM thingy???
I had duals on my '89 and I loved them! Truck ran great with an RV cam and 2.5" exhaust. FAST, responsive, fun to drive. BUT.........I remember getting about 12 - 15 mpg with all of my "fun" driving. If I had to do it all over again I would've kept the EFI, rebuilt and balanced my bottom end, gotten a custom grind camshaft, installed bigger injectors, bigger throttle body, and installed a nasty turbo. Sure it would've cost more but with gas prices now days, you'll spend that much more on gas over the next 3-4 years. Like I said, I loved the duals, BUT.....
If you go with carbs just keep in mind YOU CANNOT USE the EFI distributer. you will need to get a CARB distributer. it only takes 2.5-3 PSI fuel preasure. V8-TITAN went for a ride with me and he seen what it can do. I can last for 2 weeks of gas just cruzing it to and from work which is about 9 miles each way. and half the time my foot is pedal to the medal so it will last me about 5 days tops. cruzing will go 2 about 2 weeks. just my exp. with carbs. Also if you got a 4pseed that would be a problem for winding and you will suck gas right out your ass. gotta have that 5 speed.
have fun running dual carbs and tuning them right if i were u id run a offenhauser intake manifold and a 4 barrel
so a 22re will respondbetter with the mods, but will save a ton of gas, but the 22r will respond stock but suck more gas?
Both will eventually suck more gas when the motor is modded... It's a matter of which sucks gas more efficiently! The EFI wins hands down for efficiency while the dual carbs (when jetted and setup properly) wins hands down in throttle response and noise making! Engine internals, cams, gear ratios, transmissions, ignition, etc.. Will decide which makes more power and is faster... Anybody have dual carbs they wanna get rid of hit me up!
With the LC Pro Street EFI ,I GET 25.6MPG when I just cruise & stay @ 60-65. Most of the time I'm cruising @ 75 or better, than I get 23.5mpg,this is a very modified engine,& the mileage is pretty dam good! Response is very good!
