Hey guys, so I have been doin a little searching and found a thread on swapping the gauge cluster out for an SR5 cluster that has the tachometer in it. It seemed to say that it was just plug N play. My truck is a 1988 so in the wire cluster does it already have a wire for a tachometer?? I just have to get one (cluster or individual) and find the wire and connect it? Cuz if so that'd be sweet.
Ok. So I bought a tach at my local advanced auto parts. Mounted it. got the power and ground hooked up. The only thing left is where the green tach wire goes. HELP! Next is a pic of what I think is the unit I have to hook it up to somehow. The truck didnt come with a manual so I'm guessing here. Any help would be hot. Thanks.
I connected the green wire to the negative (-) coil I just splined it in and it works hooe this helps
Haha on yours I cant really see you should take more pics of your ignition coil? And on my truck it on the driver side and two wires are coming out of it.
That box I took a picture of said ignition on it. Is that not the right thing? I'm a total engine noob of course. I've never taken a class or anything on mechanics.
Its koo just need a pic of the wires because the wire is black so it might be the one that has the green plug in the picture
U. May have an extra skinny green plug on tour igniter coil combo that u can hook to that's were I put mine just stick a male connector in there and run your wire down your hood cable or any close buy grommet or hole
Unless the wire is clearly labled "tach" or someone can show a photo I feel like what u guys r saying might as well be chinese. FML.
In the engine bay, look for the igniter/coil on driver wheel well. follow your wires to determine pos/neg. Then put your tongue on it. If it make you say"OMG, WHAT WAS THAT?". Thats positive This diagram is not actual its for a general pic of what your looking for
in time, you will learn.... noobie-wan ka-noobie lol dont stress homie! its just a tach. just take ur time, make sure u dont let out the factory smoke from inside the box. the "Igniter" or controller is the boxy looking thing. the "coil" is the round tube looking thing.
Well I undid the bolts for that igniter box thing and just as my life would normally go.. both bolts broke off inside. I got em out after a few curse words and some drilling, but have no replacement bolts and my truck doesnt start to go to the hardware store.
I thought the bolts I undid grounded the igniter or something so I figure thats why it doesnt start....
