Just got my wiper cowl skin..says weld onto existing cowl...any pointers? Has anyone used the same product? All help is appreciated...
I've no experience. But I've heard it's thin. And low heat. Slow wire speed. Tack one side..do the opposite side...slow is key.
Maybe a little late on my post for this but hope to help you a bit. When welding really thin sheet metal it does help to have a welding spoon. This will slow you to make your tacks and not burn through as the spoons melting point is way to high. You can also use a welding spoon to fill holes if you did burn through. If I'm not mistaken that skin is 22 gauge and hard to weld if you don't have experience. Best of luck and hope I caught yah before you started.
even easier .. I have a basically bolt on piece .. you just gotta drill a few holes smoothie cowl --- > Truck
Yea i didnt get that bolt on cause i saw the fitment problem...i gotta grind the grant one down to size alittle on both ends and then gonna just try n weld it to the stock one like it says....just gonna take my time and take lots of pics....ill post once done
An old school trick to welding thin metal along with tacking and jumping around was to use a air hose blower to cool the metal down after you weld it. It's better with a buddy handling the blower. Just have them blow the weld cool while you jump to another part to weld.
fitment issue is very minor , as responded to in his thread .. or not !! but , that's ok with me brutha .. you just go to work ! .. I wish you only the BEST of luck .
I got one of these last year just got around to installing it I had mine ordered with the wiper holes in it
