I found a guy who would be willing to mold me some new b pillar vents. I have 2 that are in decent condition, but we all know how brittle these are. The small ones that are impossible to find. He can take one of my vents, and cast a mold, and make a few of these vents. He charges 45+ cost of materials to make the mold, and then however he charges for the vents. I'd expect a vent to cost 30-50 each. My vents have a couple of scratches, but nothing significant, but they will have some minor blemishes, unless someone would be willing to donate a perfect one. Would there be any interest in getting these made? If there's enough interest, I'll follow up with him. The cost of making the mold would be the biggest initial cost.
I see alot of these trucks roaming around without them so im sure someone would be willing to buy. Im glad mine has them in tact
I am re-creating the side vents in CAD right now. I was planning on 3D printing them. If they work out I'll see if there is a way to post the CAD file here.
I use the offer button if I don't like the price. If they have other items that you would like to buy you can get a quote on the cart. It's a little more hidden. I have a screen shot of the price from a year ago. As far as I remember the shipping was only a few bucks. You can try to use that to your advantage. 3d printing plastic is fun but it's really only good for prototyping. To much work to make a clean looking print that doesn't look printed.
I have a few 3d printers and some extra time now and again at work. RN28 Vent -Modified For FDM by Smokewagon posted Sep 21, 2021 at 12:43 AM I added some ribbing and made the overall unit thicker where I could. Going on vacay tomorrow so the print will have to wait until I get back.
Test print came out pretty good. Only took about 2 hours of printing time. I'll see how they fit pretty soon.
Ask the guy if he'd be able to do the 'C' pillar moulding for a first gen MR2. A lot of people are needing those.
Casting stuff is not a super difficult process. I’ve cast a few things before and it was fun to do. The materials aren’t cheap though
