My speedometer reads about 20 MPH faster than I am going. I just got the truck and it does have larger than stock tires- does this effect the speedometer that much or is the sensor bad at the trans? I tried the search option but only found out info on cable driven speedometers.
larger tires should make you go faster than what the gauge is saying. have you changed gears? is your gauge electronic?
Not sure about the gears- just bought yesterday. The speedometer is electrical and the plug is on the passenger side of the trans.
i'd check the sender, maybe its bad. the tires aren't really big enough to justify new gears having been put in.
Disconnected the wires and pluged it back in. Got to a good HW speed (70mph) and it started working. Now only to get the A/C fixed. Thanks
Problem not solved- got out of work and about 20MPH too fast. Drove about 5 miles and the gauge started to jump then everything was normal. Maybe sending unit not spinning right and needs to heat up
Oh, d***! Sorry about that dude! Always something, you think you fix it, then it rears its ugly head again!
Narrowed it down some. Speedometer not reading correct, turn on the blinker then boom- everything normal. Looked at the online service manual and it turns out that the blinker is tied into the speedsensor ground somewhere Need to pull out the gauge cluster and check the wiring.
