I have a 87 22re 4x4 that I've been driving as a winter beater. Problem I'm having is when I depress the clutch to shift the motor revs higher and takes a couple seconds before it comes down. Even if I'm sitting at a light and rev the motor in neutral this happens. It seems to be worse when the weather is cold. Is a vacuum leak causing this?

sounds like a vaccume or possibly even an air leak in the manifold somewhere. easy way to test would be to grab a can of carb cleaner and start spraying around the lines. also check around the intake tube and manifolds as it sounds like its going lean....

are the tps sensors adjustable on the 22re? If so check voltage on that at idle and WOT. Cleaning your throttle body and checking for dry gaskets that are very worn, old vacuum lines that are old and dry and last check your idle settings

The easiest way to check for vacuum leaks is to spray the motor with brake clean, if the rpms raise you have a leak, isolate the area and thats it, just keep the spray away from the exhaust manifold.:waytogo:
