in about 3 weeks im going to spend the money on an engine rebuild kit and was wondering if anyone knows of a guaranteed good place to buy one from. i was also wondering if i am going to need to buy and new crankshaft? camshaft? if anyone knows or has info or tips please let me know. i would really appreciate it. i have a 20r motor.
I know people on here have got the ebay rebuild kits and have used it. Others have used the edlbgerger kit and loved that one as well. Try do a search, i know this topic was recently talked about cause they were talking about headgaskets and quality.
I have used a few of these kits .. good product and great service . I had 2 head gasket failures and they did warrenty them , Ted says the headgasket problem has been fixed .. I ended up going with dealer headgaskets , just because of the freight involved and labor (I didnt want to do it again) I recommend dealer head gasket torqued to 70FT/LBS .
Anyone used rebuild kit off Ebay before? Anyone know a good place to buy a master rebuild kit for a 20R? Just checking around now getting advices from experienced Toy people here.
Engnbldr.com is probably your best bet to get your parts from. But heres a tip, you can get standard bore 22R pistons (81-83) and have the machine shop bore out your 20R block and make it a 22R hybrid. (dont worry about making the bores too big, Ive seen a 20R block with LS1 pistons in it!) Thats it. Everything else would be the same. As far as the crank and cam...Pretty much if your motor isnt knocking, the crank is probably still good. Cams hardly wear out. If the ebay parts are "ROCK" brand, theyre ok. Ive had some of their parts and it wasnt bad for the price.
Seen it done Nook. Looked crazy. But he had to use an early 20R block, (pre 77 I think). I cant wait to see it run.
lots of good tips. i think for now im just going to keep everything standard. i was also thinking about just doing my timing chain for now but i think its smarter to just rebuild it, its a bone stock 31 year old motor hahahaha
