Hello, I'm a Newbie here so please don't kill me. I have a 77 Hi Lux with 4WD componets that I believe to be dealer installed, because Hi Lux didn't go 4WD until 79. So except for the motor (whis is a 20R) I don't know what I got. I assume it has a 2WD rear axle, as it has the smaller lug pattern, but don't know about the front axle, which has the larger lug pattern. I don't know about the transfer case or transmission (which is a 4 spd). Was hoping that if I can get some pics you guys could help me identify. I'm looking to get a spare trans but don't know what to get and same problem with the rear axle. Any input is appreciated.
i would love to see this. maybe someone back in the day did a backyard build and made your truck 4x4 take pictures of the body tags that might help tell if this is a factory option on not. oh and welcome to the site
I'm gonna put up some pics tomorrow, too dark right now. I see things that make me think it's dealer install, but other things to make me think it's not.
I,m gonna guess, like oldschool64 said, a Wolverine conversion, built by Tolsdorf Industries back in the day, has a dana 20 transfer case mated to the stock 4spd trans, a dana 30 front axle, 4.10 ratio, and the stock rear axle flipped to the bottom of the springs with the stock 4.11 ratio.
wow That's awesome, Here is a question and I know that Toyota is mostly all Married Transfers, Whats yours? Oh and Nook you are still the Man with those 4x4 Classics
Transfer Case Im trying to find some seals for my leakage issue but don't know what the case is for sure.
from what I can see in the picture it looks to be a Dana 20, parts and pieces should be readily available for it as they are a very common popular case. The Dana Spicer Model 20 Transfer Case - Novak Conversions Thanks dogfather, I like my old 4x4 playtoys
Does this mean I have a 2wd rear axle with a 4wd front? I'd like to upgrade the rear to Dana 44 if possible. I don't know if the lug pattern is the same, I think it has a small 5 pattern in the rear right now, but not sure. I also need the whole linkage assembly for the 4WD shifter. Transfer case is loose because of the missing bracket piece and 4WD is virtually inoperable becasue of it. Any suggestions?
Yes you have the stock toyota 2wd rear axle assembly and a dana 30 front axle, different 5 lug bolt pattern front and rear, kinda sucks!! you might be able to find a rear axle from an early Jeep/Scout or such that has the same as front bolt pattern and close to correct rear width, or possibly a pair of wheel adapters on the rear to match the fronts. The 4wd shift linkage was pretty simple from what I remember, again something from an early Jeep setup might get it operational again as I bet the linkage was pretty similar, just the shift lever was probably made to fit the interior space. I don't know how well these pictures will post but I tried... [/IMG] [/IMG]
I'll get some pics of the truck tomorrow in the daylight. It was a custom paint job from dealership that was original. It was white with red, orange and yellow pin stripes and had "Geoffrey" on the driver door. I have since sanded it and painted it camo.
