Just an FYI, because I was told it couldn't be done. I just installed an 88 Supra LSD and 3.91 gear set into my 1975 8" R&P 2wd Hilux. I would do a write up, but this link does a way better job.

    Toyota gear install

To do this install you need a late 4cyl inner pinion bearing and race and the axle carrier conversion bearings, or do what I did before I found out about the conversion bearings, and machine the axle carrier down to accept the 4cyl bearings. Also the guy on gearinstalls.com lists a koyo bearing number. I couldn't find that number anywhere. Turns out it's sold under National bearings, part #32307-W. The "W" is very important. That's what makes all the difference. It's a thinner bearing than what's stock in the 85 and older diffs. If you don't use that bearing, the pinion will hit the carrier/LSD. Well, I guess that's about it. Good luck, and have fun doing 2wd burnouts.

best stuff to run a redline 75-90 with no additive since it's all ready in the fluid.

and I recommend wise spring upgrade since the supra lsd is pretty slushy in worn stock form

Is it possible to do the supra conversion into a 4x4 83?

If it's an 8" rear end, then yes it's possible.
