Here's the parts list, if I missed anything feel free to chime in... 1. 85-95 "laser" short block including timing chain setup... Single or dual chain doesn't matter as long as it's the flat top style pistons... *note- I'm mentioning dual chain here for those that have done the dual chain conversion... 2. Any year 20r head. Power steering and mechanical fuel pump bosses are optional. *note- if you plan to run dual sidedrafts the mechanical Fuel pump cannot be used due to the intake manifold design... ***This is NOT a bolt on deal! The 20r head will need to be milled to achieve a deck height of 3.130 from the bottom of the front cam journal to it's deck. Oil passage will also need to be re-machined after being milled. It's @ the front head bolt hole on the passenger side... See LC engineerings website if your still unsure... ***Piston to valve clearance must be checked even on stock internals... *20r intake must be used... *22r aluminum rockers preferred but, not mandatory...
Seriously keep this thread updated, PLEASE! I can find 20r heads all day long here, but having a lazer block, I didn't think I could do a hybrid! Side note, how do you think this higher compression engine would run on e85? It's available around here, and is great for high compression engines because it's so resistant to pinging.
the objective of a 20r/22r hybrid is to get a higher compression ratio and a higher flowing head. which i wanna see some proof of, numbers that is. not really a turbo friendly setup, but if you get forged low compression pistons, i can see why not. and then i'd rather turbo it. bang for buck. T3/T4 hybrid setup. Megasquirt. MAP sensor. Upgraded fuel injectors. build up an intake manifold, individual stacks and a manifold plenum built on top. there's more to it.
A 20r/22r hybrid is proven through Lc Engineerings combination. Go to LCE's website and look at the hp #s on the stage 1-5 motors. Turbo is the way to go. Best bang for the buck. Invest on the internals for 20psi+ and get the turbo for your hp goals. Mine is 400hp+!
how much are you putting down at the dyno? meh, Stage 1-5 I've never seen any pics of these in someone's trucks or even a vid of them running. but then how much do you spend on a N/A 22R/RE setup?
lol ive seen one stage 2 or 3 once...and it wasnt that cool really. about 2 months later the guy sold the truck so he wasnt impressed with it either.
The main goal here is to utilize the 20R headflow... The NA or Turbo options are up to you and how deep your pockets are...
This is so true.. if you want HP, id honestly say get a swap..but if you want something unique then go with this.. once u get past the bolt on stuff, ur really droppin alot of $$..
True about deep pockets Par (BYE). It isn't cheap at all. But, if I was going to do a swap you might as well drop in a LS1!
bah i was hoping they would have a picture or something for me to show my machine dude... hopefully he will understand when i bring him my head manana. Thanks for the link
Bring a head gasket too, before he cuts he'll know which port it is because after the material has been shaved off the port will disappear! Lol! The shape looks somewhat like an ice-cream cone...
Its the machined slot about 3/4 of an inch long, starting from the right upper head bolt hole in VVV pic.
