So i have a 89 Toyota 2wd ex-cab as a DD and parts hauler last week I blew the head gasket on my old faithful 22RE after 289,000 milesAfter talking with a good friend of mine he has agreed to assist in repowering the old work horse with the legendary Mercedes OM617 turbo Used from 1974 through 1986 we will be mating this engine to the factory toyota 5spd in the truck

    OM617
Power output was 125 hp (91 kW). Torque was rated at 180 lb•ft

    22RE
    112 hp (84 kW) at 4600 rpm and 142 ft•lbf (192 N•m) at 3400 rpm

    Planned upgrades:

    ENGINE
(free)Increase fuel via alda & increase pump timing
    (free)Increase boost
    Intercooler
    Propane injection(maybe)

    Truck:
    2” drop spindles
    3” lowering blocks
    4x4 grille
    15 or 16 x8 wheels
    Tint
    Real paint job

My hopes with this swap with a few small mods will get me 30-40 MPG

    $1500 = budget

    -400 = engine
-100 = oil cooler & oil filter housing (other random parts a friend had)
-100 = machine work on fly wheel & bearing adaptor
-100 = metal for building adaptor plate
    -107 = clutch (ebay)
-109 = GM single wire 150 amp alt

    need = new fuel lines
need = exhoust (will build straight pipe)

89 Hilux as she is now

    4x4 fenders
    4runner bumper
    $10 spray paint job

I thought about a turbo diesel swap as well. I have a buddy in the middle of the swap in his 4x4 and if he gets it running I might do the swap as well.

that paint sucks but with a crappy pic from 10ft away it looks good :D

also to both of you my friend that is helping me with this swap will be producing a swap kit to mate the engine and tranny togeather should be less then $400-$500 all you need to do is motor mounts and plumming if cooling and what not

Also is there no way to EDIT post on this site ?????

Yeah there is a site i found to mate VW engines to the tranny called acmeadapters.com They also provide the drawings for people that can machine it themselves. They just ask you not to start a business machining these parts.

You can edit posts there is a button at the bottom of the post you did it's next to the "QUOTE" button, says EDIT, can't miss it. :)

I think you can only edit a post within a certain amount of time after posting it though.
