To make this short and simple, post up a photo of the underhood tag. For your year, it should be on the firewall between the valve cover and the booster. Specifically, I need the bottom right corner section, but the whole thing is fine too.

If you do in fact have 3.58s and you have the G code rear end, I have a spare 4.10 gear set I would trade you. Your freeway RPM would increase some, but your acceleration would be much greater for in town use. Even with 4.10s and 24" tall rear tires, I can get over 30mpg at 70-75mph. I just want the higher top speed of a taller gear. Basically, at say 5k rpm in 5th gear I am getting more rotations of the tire. Therefore, redlining 5th I'm not bound to about a 120ish max.

Sure. But if you have 3.58s, I want em. 3.73s would be better but the 4.10s are too quick around town for me having the extra power. When it was stock, I loved them. Now I spin through the gear too quickly.

On that engine tag, what does it say in the right corner at the bottom. Should say A/TM on the left with a set of 4 digits / 3 digits. Or they are the other way around. That will tell me what transmission and rear end you have, so I can make suggestions of what may work better for you.

Your gear ratio is located on the sticker on the doorjamb... Bottom right corner like sb88 said. Look for something like: A312 or G292 something along those lines with 3-digits preceeded by a letter.

I have 3:42 and 3:30 gearsets in the 7.5" "F" code diff if anyone is interested...

well, if you go too low then you just have to hold it up a gear and therefore save nothing. except maybe on the freeway. a 3.5/3.7 is right about where i want it. and if i dont like it, i can always change back. having the new motor and its power, i can push through the gears easier. almost too quickly...especially 1st.

lol a 4.10 or higher would let me go fast acceleration wise... low end, i suffer til about 25mph... that's where the truck actually wants to pickup speed lol.

but a 3.30 gearset would let my truck LOVE the highway hahahaha

i'd imagine that 1st gear would end at 60mph haahahahha

1st wouldnt rev out that fast. I have done all the math, and for what I am doing, 3.73s are perfect. I have that PDF saved to my phone for junkyard reference

    Pretty much.
Since taller gearing would be nice mileage wise... that'd be neat. i'm getting like 21mpg lately

Freeway or city? Mine gets that in city if I drive like SD :D Freeway, best tank was 31.5mpg. I haven't been clockin the new motor since I don't have a speedo hooked up. Not that it was accurate after the trans swap anyways. I will probably do the Sho mod and use one meant for a mountain bike

because i kept the truck to about 60 for 250 miles.

its still in the high 20s up to about 70-80. by 70 im turning 3300 rpm. 80, i dont know...but its too much for comfortable cruising.

My BBQ grill slushbox has factory 3:73's... I think Imma drop in the 3:30's since I'm using smaller diameter tires...

sb88~ Good luck finding 3:73's in "G" code @ the yard. 3:90's were more common in "G" code...
