    Hey guys...

    I am from Miami, FL

I bought this '93 truck for $ 400.00 from a friend of mine... He was T-boned by an old lady with no insurance and now I have the truck.

I have bought most of the body panels brand new inexpensively

Here is the night Triple AAA picked her up and I bought her for $400.00
On March 18th, 2013.. this was my birthday present to myself.

    New fenders $28.00 each side
    New Hood $76.00
    New Chrome Grille $ 36.00
    New Chrome Front Bumper ???/

I will post more pics in a thread build for this truck

The only frame damage is only where the radiator support panel meets the frame.
Here is a pic so you can see.. other than that everything else unwinds like an accordion.

First thing to replace is the right side door window.
This truck belonged to a friend named Jonas and his wife's head struck the windshield and the door window.

Centerline Wheels below... Classic wheels alone with new tires should be worth $400.00 so i guess i am not doing so bad.

The previous owner butchered the dash by yanking out the radio instead of removing it carefully so the dash is broken.

I had to remove the door panel to vacuum out all the broken glass... what a mess this was to do.

I have now fixed the dash with a little heat torch to mend the joints back together. You can still see the crack above the radio cutout:

The Surround cluster halves were broken into many pieces.. hard to find replacement so i have mended it and used fiberglass cloth to make a mold and it should be fine.. we will see.

A view of the engine compartment.. who knows what is lurking underneath that will need replacement.... I wonder if it will be in my budget.

Now its up on the frame machine
    [IMG]
I had to replace the cracked windshield for $150.00 Brand new professionally installed:

I had to replace the water pump... I first went with an aftermarket Metrix then i found out the fins rubbed against the block so then for only $4.00 more I went with the Bosch unit and it fit like a glove.

I also replaced the drive belts:

Got the subframe straightened out and the inner fender cowlings were pulled back into place.

Welding the Rad support to the fender tip

The clearance between Water pump shaft and fan housing is a little greater than 1/4"

Plate i used from Home depot to secure the fan on the left side which now has been painted black

Painting the underside of the hood

The fenders underside as well and edges with Oxford YZ Basecoat
    [IMG]

Painted Radiator support white as well... if you don't they will rust quickly.. aftermarket stuff metal is thin... gotta do it right.

Everything is lined up the right way... installed Radiator, Condenser, Drier, and other lines on or near Rad Support Panel.
    [IMG][/IMG]

Rinsed her off and used degreaser on the motor to get all the dirt out before sanding.. prepping and paint.

The Dizzy is busted broken... well from the impact so off to the salvage yard to find a replacement.

I am going to call it a day... will be back Sunday... Saturday is Shabbat so off to temple i go...

Well it seems that the previous owners at one point sat on the truck's roof to gaze at the stars or it was some overweight cat that cause the dents... so the roof had to be worked after using OSPHO to remove the rust now it is bare metal and filled with Duraglass.

The distributor was broken by the impact of the collision so it caused a chain reaction of destruction along its path... it took out the guides of the timing chain and subsequently nicked the front cam gear..

Here is where the gear was nicked up so i took a fine file and just smoothed it out so the dizzy gear would not cause an issue.

The 22RE Motors are pretty strong but you never know what can happen.. I am hoping that it didnt skip a tooth on the main timing gear or else it would need a valve job... unfortunately the only way to tell is to first put the timing chain on and set the dizzy in... then check for compression... if it doesn't have it then more than likely the valves are bent and that is about $ 800.00 more.. I put my hands on the truck and prayed.

Is at the mechanic shop now to get the timing chain replaced... had to remove much down below just to get the oil pan out.
I got quoted $200.00 for the labor
    Parts needed:
OE Timing Chain set $ 55.00
    Oil Pan gasket: $ 8.00
Valve cover gasket kit set: $14.00
    Timing cover gasket: $4.00
    [IMG]

    Parts removed
    [IMG]

Oil Pan removed as this was not such an easy task:

    New Timing gears in place:

    Old Timing chain and cover:

    Old large timing gear:

    Putting new items back in:

New timing chain, tensioner and guides:

Putting everything back on like the BOSCH water pump, Crank pulley and other components:

Baruch Hashem !! My prayer was answered... the motor is fine and the valves are fine... Juan Carlos the mechanic cleaned the strainers and pump to make sure that we could run Mobil One Synthetic 15W 50 motor oil so here is a video that i uploaded to facebook of the truck being driven back to the body shop for the final phase which is paint.. Oxford white with a hint of Pearl.

    Check out the video:

Now to tack the Battery / Air intake swap relocation...
Roni's "AssYriaNrocKer" thread on this mod I had to modify because he took out the AC lines but here in Miami you gotta have Air Conditioning and Roni also suggested just drilling a hole on the top of the fender well to to secure the battery strap hold down..

I opted for something cleaner like purchasing a battery tray from Advance Auto Parts for $6.99
The air intake parts and sleeves were from Advance Auto:
    Chrome elbow $11.99
    Blue Sleeves $6.99 each
I took a flat aluminum bar from Home Depot $3.00 and polished it at home and attached it to the AFM... check it out !!

    BEFORE:

Separating the AFM wires from the harness.. easy task... just be careful with the mat razor when cutting away at the top shrink material:

Here the two sets of wires are separated:

Make sure you use UL rated Electrical tape.. don't buy the cheap stuff from the Dollar store because you don't want any problems something catching fire.
So i used electrical tape on the wires then i wrapped it in some wire loom $ 2.99 at WalMart
    [IMG]

Roni went with the stock rubber Air intake but after many years of mine in the truck it has become dry, hard and brittle plus I have Air Conditioning and the AC lines get in the way .. Here is the before pic:

I tried a 60 degree elbow but somehow it didnt work too well.. i was careful to use a razor to cut the packaging in case i needed to return it and swap for another one.

The 90 degree elbow worked best...
I had to P tie down the AC lines for clearance:

Here is another view facing forward... the pollution bottle is coming out..

Here is the flat bar polished aluminum piece i made to secure the AFM in place to keep it from bouncing around... who wants noise ?

This is just a temp mock up of how the battery will sit on the drivers side of engine bay:

So as I mentioned above I preferred to go with a battery tray $6.99 from Advance Auto instead of drilling into the fender well:

I used 6mm self tapping screws to hold the tray in place,,, the great thing about this tray it has a hole for the lock strap:

I also used battery terminal wires that are 4 or 2 gauge that i bought at Advance Auto for $9.00 each.. one black for the ground side and the red one was 42" that went from the passenger side to the drivers side of the engine bay

Here is the finished Battery Swap / Air Intake Swap:

I can't remember if its 5W30 or 15W50 Mobil One Synthetic but keep in mind that I am in Miami, FL and it gets hot and humid here. I plan on driving w every day and to haul my '67 beetle around when I need it or the jet ski
